All work and no play make snatchbot go crazy

After having dedicated so much time to work and the macbook lately I decided that with the arrival of easter and my 4 day long weekend that I would take the time to invest some much needed love into one of my biggest pashions.

PC Gaming.

The obsession started in 1993 after being sat down on my arse and told to amuse myself. It was at this point I found myself sitting at what would I would later find out was called a “dos prompt”.

Anyhow the dos prompt looked a little like this:

This was very intriquing to me. What was this “wolf3d” it spoke of? A quick tutorial later and I was about to find out exactly what it was, and from that moment on I was never the same again.

I spent every waking moment for months invested not only in wolf3d but every game that I could hoard from shareware disk’s and from friends. Triumph after triump, killing hitler, frying those green bastards in keen, finally reeming it up Dr Proton.

I could not stop, I was a monster.

To distract me from my rants I will lost in no particular order my favourite games of from what I consider to be the golden era of gaming in my life time.

Anyway back to my point, Gaming.

Went out and dropped down some cash on what is to be honest, a pretty friggen crappy system.

Now compare that to my previous rig:

2 Gb corsair XMS 3200
2x 200 Seagate in raid 0
Gainward 7900GTX
19 inch LCD 12ms display
Antec P180
Dual 16x dual layer dvd burners

I am telling you that thing chewed through benchmarks like there was no tommorow. My housemate had an extreme edition 3.46 and the SD just made it look like a very expensive joke. At it’s peak my system was pulling just over 12,000 in 3dmark05.

Now compare to new machine. Yes, cry a little, I do.
